By Megan Vander Woude Office of AdvancementThe Global Citizen Internship program provides students in the Faculty of Environment with hands-on experience with a non-profit.
In the non-profit sector, generally there isn’t sufficient funding to hire students. I believe it’s important to make co-op internships accessible to everyone.
Thanks to donor Sheryl Kennedy (BES ’76), Planning student Jacklyn Iezzi spent her last co-op term working for Habitat for Humanity Wellington Dufferin Guelph (WDG). Jacklyn received practical experience that she’ll take into her career, but her time with Habitat was also very rewarding. She grew up in the local community, and this co-op experience allowed her to help families in her hometown.
“Sheryl’s contribution is just so generous,” she says. “It transcends beyond me as a student at ݮƵ…. It’s helping people find adequate and affordable living situations.”

Looking back at the work, legacy, and final chapter of the community-engaged research initiative, Partners for Action
The University of ݮƵ acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg, and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is co-ordinated within the Office of Indigenous Relations.
