More than 200 students, faculty and representatives from industry gathered at the second annual À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ Undergraduate Nanotechnology Conference (WUNC) to learn from each other about how nanotechnology is taught and used in industry. This successful student-organized event, held at the Mike & Ophelia Lazaridis Quantum-Nano Centre in November, presented role models and inspiration to the next wave of nanotechnology engineers.
The keynote speaker Vladimir Bulović, the associate dean of innovation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology School of Engineering, set the tone with a powerful talk about the prospects of nanotechnology in academia, industry and start-ups, including the implications and potential of nanotechnology as a disruptive innovation. Attendees, mostly undergrads from À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ and nearby universities, learned about the future of nanotechnology from speakers, industry panel discussions, poster sessions and interactive sessions. They also had opportunities to talk with experts and get first-hand information about their career options.
Congratulations to the À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ Nanotechnology Engineering students who organized this extraordinary event. It provided nanotechnology students and the industry in which they will soon work with a great opportunity to get to know one another better. Â
