Mariette StephensonÌýis a classical guitarist who has performed in numerous recitals as a soloist and chamber musician, and has premiered works by WilliamÌýBeauvais, Patrick Power, Boyd McDonald, Glenn Buhr, Ivana Jokic, Andrzej Tereskowski, Alfred Kunz, Hannah Nicoletta, and Jonatas Batista-Neto. Performances include recitals for the Guitar Society of Brantford, Guitar Society of Toronto and the Organix Festival.
Chamber music collaborations include performances with sopranos Katalin Puscas and Brooke Dufton, Stephanie Pesant (flute), Bonchiku Hoshi (shakuhachi), TomÌýFitches (organ). As Duo Calixa with Kelly Williamson (flute), Mariette recordedÌýthe acclaimed CDÌýCaminos. Mariette performed with the Ekleipsis Guitar Trio, whichÌýcommissioned and premiered many new works by Canadian composers for guitar trio.
Mariette Stephenson studied with Dr. Jeffrey McFadden, having received her B.Mus from McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario and her ARCT from theÌýRoyal Conservatory of Music. She earned a Masters of Music (performance) fromÌýthe University of Toronto. She is the recipient of numerous awards including theÌýEli Kassner Guitar Scholarship, a University of Toronto Fellowship, and Bernice Adams Memorial Bursaries. Mariette is Music Director for the Kitchener-À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ Guitar Orchestra and has presented lectures and published articles on the history of women’s contributions to guitar orchestras. Her arrangements for guitar are available atÌýStrings By Mail, Sheet Music Plus and the Austin Guitar Curriculum.ÌýShe is aÌýclinician and adjudicator at music festivals throughout Ontario. Mariette is cohost for the Classical Guitar Heroines Podcast (available on most streaming platforms).Ìý
