This earth-themed concert features Earth Voices,Ìýa performanceÌýpiece by Carol Ann Weaver for readers, soundscape, and visuals, with texts by 24 Mennonite writers fromÌýNorth and SouthÌýAmerica, Middle East, and Africa. ÌýThe soundscape is based on Carol's compositions, on-site field recordings, andÌývisuals, which frame and synergize withÌýthe spoken word. ÌýThis piece seeks to find voices which can lead usÌýintoÌýa deeper knowledge of the earth and our relationship to it.

Music by 12 ACWCÌýComposers (Association of Canadian Women Composers). Featured composers areÌýHildegard Westerkamp, Emily Doolittle, Gayle Young, Carol Ann Weaver, Jana Skarecky, Laura Pettigrew, DianeÌýBerry, Carmen Braden, Joanne Bender, Caroline Bordignon, Katerina Gimon, and Emily Walker.ÌýÌýPerformersÌýinclude clarinetistÌýTilly Kooyman; vocalists Rebecca Campbell, Gord Burnett, Valerie Nunn; LaurierÌýSingers conducted by Lee Willingham; Amaranth playerÌýGayle Young; and many more.

The Factory Arts String Quartet will be playingÌýwith guest artist Lori Gemmell, who is a well known local performer and the Principal Harpist for the Kitchener-À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ Symphony.Ìý

Sing Fires of Justice Public Festival of Song and Word - 10th Anniversary

This concert will includeÌýboth the UW Chamber Choir directed by Dr. Mark Vuorinen, and the University Choir directed by Dr. Gerard Yun. ÌýOther featured choirs are the Maureen Forrester Singers, Laurier Singers and Concert Choir, as well as the Good Hearted Women Singers.
The speaker for this evening is John Milloy, from the Centre for Public Ethics at À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ Lutheran Seminary.

Canadian soprano Leslie Fagan is a regular at Carnegie Hall, and well known to local audiences. ÌýShe and pianist LorinÌýShalanko will be performing together.

±Êä°ù³Ù's rarely performed composition frames the Gospel of John from the New Testament in a meditative, almost hypnoticÌýstyle. It was inspired by medieval music and the minimalism for which he is famous. ÌýThis concert is part of a celebration for the ​80thÌýbirthday ofÌýArvoÌý±Êä°ù³Ù, so well loved and admired by listeners worldwide. ÌýArguably the world’s most popular composer of contemporary classical music, his music is revered in his homeland of Estonia and around the world.
