End of Term Concert
Every two years, orchestra@uwaterloo holds a Concerto and Aria Competition that is open to University of À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ students and recent graduates, and is judged by a panel of professional musicians. Winners perform as soloists with the orchestra in a public concert.
The winner of the 2023 competition was Catherine He, a pianist who is studying Computer Science at the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ.Ìý She will be performing Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 1 in E Minor, opus 11 at the Fall 2023 end of term concert.Ìý The judges described her performance as an "absolutely flawless and poignant" performance of ÌýChopin Concerto #1.
The second piece of the concert is Schumann’s Symphony No. 3 in E Flat major, also known as the Rhenish.Ìý
The orchestra@uwaterloo is a 60 member ensemble open to students, staff, faculty and alumni.ÌýÌý It can be taken for credit or as an extracurricular activity. It is directed by Dan Warren, a well-known local trumpeter, conductor, and arranger.
