Come experience the polyrhythms and polyphony of Balinese gamelan music played by ��ݮ��Ƶ’s two local ensembles: the U��ݮ��Ƶ Balinese Gamelan and Grebel Community Balinese Gamelan. Directed by artist-in-residence, I Dewa Made Suparta, students and community members gather over a 12-week period to learn traditional and modern pieces through listening, imitation, repetition, and memorization.

Join us for the premiere of “Batu Gonjak” –– a cascade of melodic modes and temporal cycles composed by Dewa Suparta for the 7-tone gamelan semara dana. This concert also features works by students enrolled in a Balinese culture and composition course unique to U��ݮ��Ƶ’s Department of Music.
