It is important to Mathieu-Chua Duo that their collaborations and performances spark new artistic and social developments. They hope to contribute to the evolution of classical music as well as forge new connections between composers and audiences – two parties that might otherwise remain isolated without committed performers and committed performances. Our aim is to inspire emerging Canadian composers to the artistic and technical possibilities of instrumental chamber writing and to inspire the next generation of performers to the potential of contemporary repertoire.<br /><br /> Meeting in 2012, Mathieu-Chua Duo has quickly established themselves in Canada. They have presented recitals at Music Toronto’s Discovery Series, 21C Festival at the Royal Conservatory of Music (Toronto), Sound Symposium XVII (St. John’s, NF), New Works Calgary, Ottawa New Music Creators, 5-Penny New Music Concerts (Sudbury, ON), Palais Montcalm (Quebec City), and COC’s Richard Bradshaw Amphitheatre (Toronto); as well as at Universities of Ottawa, Western Ontario, Guelph, and ݮƵ. In their short history together, Véronique and Stephanie have commissioned and premiered a number of works by emerging Canadian composers including Gabriel Dufour-Laperrière, Brian Harman, Emilie Lebel, Adam Scime, and Caitlin Smith, and established composers Alice Ho (Canada) and David Vayo (USA). They have collaborated with the composers of Spectrum Music (Toronto, ON) and Canadian-born, Brooklyn-based interdisciplinary artist Karen Ostrom to present 'Patent Pending', an installation, animated film accompanied by live music at CONTACT Photography Festival 2014 (Toronto). The duo released their debut recording 'True North' on the Centrediscs label in 2017. Gapplegate Classical-Modern Review notes that the duo “trip the light fantastic with a dramatic sense of expression and a remarkable sense of balance and poise”. Mathieu-Chua Duo will also be releasing a 2nd recording together featuring all female composers on PARMA Recordings.</p> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="layout__region layout__region--second"> <div class="block block-uw-custom-blocks block-uw-cbl-image"> <div class="uw-image"> <figure class="uw-image__figure uw-image__full-width"><picture class="uw-picture"><!--[if IE 9]><video style="display: none;"><![endif]--><source srcset="/music/sites/default/files/styles/uw_is_media_x_large/public/uploads/images/2022_veronique_stephanie_nromanoff6.jpg?itok=xLgThIAZ 1x" media="all and (min-width: 63.19em)" type="image/jpeg"></source><source srcset="/music/sites/default/files/styles/uw_is_media_large/public/uploads/images/2022_veronique_stephanie_nromanoff6.jpg?itok=GqsjWKnc 1x" media="all and (min-width: 49.81em)" type="image/jpeg"></source><source srcset="/music/sites/default/files/styles/uw_is_media_medium/public/uploads/images/2022_veronique_stephanie_nromanoff6.jpg?itok=Y3SquR1v 1x" media="all and (min-width: 30em)" type="image/jpeg"></source><source srcset="/music/sites/default/files/styles/uw_is_media_small/public/uploads/images/2022_veronique_stephanie_nromanoff6.jpg?itok=8qYz41U5 1x" media="all and (min-width: 25em)" type="image/jpeg"></source><source srcset="/music/sites/default/files/styles/uw_is_media_x_small/public/uploads/images/2022_veronique_stephanie_nromanoff6.jpg?itok=EfFyBbzy 1x" media="all and (min-width: 15em)" type="image/jpeg"></source><source srcset="/music/sites/default/files/styles/uw_is_portrait/public/uploads/images/2022_veronique_stephanie_nromanoff6.jpg?itok=08upwxul 1x" media="all and (min-width: 1em)" type="image/jpeg"></source><!--[if IE 9]></video><![endif]--><img class="uw-picture__fallback" src="/music/sites/default/files/styles/large/public/uploads/images/2022_veronique_stephanie_nromanoff6.jpg?itok=vRlgHqIR" alt="Stephanie Chua & Veronique Mathieu" /></picture></figure></div> </div> <div class="block block-layout-builder block-inline-blockuw-cbl-copy-text"> <h2>Programme</h2> <div class="uw-copy-text"> <div class="uw-copy-text__wrapper "> <p><span><span><strong><span lang="FR" xml:lang="FR" xml:lang="FR">Elizabeth Jacquet de la Guerre (1665-1729) </span>- </strong><span lang="EN-CA" xml:lang="EN-CA" xml:lang="EN-CA">From<em> Sonata no. 6</em> for violin and piano</span></span></span></p> <p><span><span><strong><span lang="FR" xml:lang="FR" xml:lang="FR">Pauline Viardot (1821-1910)- </span></strong></span></span><span><span>  <em><span lang="EN-CA" xml:lang="EN-CA" xml:lang="EN-CA">Sonatine </span></em><span lang="EN-CA" xml:lang="EN-CA" xml:lang="EN-CA">for violin and piano</span><br />                                </span></span><br /><span><span><strong><span lang="EN-CA" xml:lang="EN-CA" xml:lang="EN-CA">Alice Ping Yee Ho (1960-) </span>-  </strong><em><span lang="EN-CA" xml:lang="EN-CA" xml:lang="EN-CA">Four Seasons</span></em><span lang="EN-CA" xml:lang="EN-CA" xml:lang="EN-CA"> for violin and piano</span></span></span></p> <p><span><span><strong><span lang="EN-CA" xml:lang="EN-CA" xml:lang="EN-CA">Amy Beach (1867-1944) -
