Background & History
Matthews Golf Classic is a golf tournament held once a year in June. It is open to all staff, faculty, students, retirees, alumni,Ìýand invited guests.
The popular event started in honour of Burt MatthewsÌýPresident from 1970 – 1981. Burt attended the event for many years and now his son Dave attends.
The mission of the Burt Matthews Golf Classic is to foster connection within the UÀ¶Ý®ÊÓƵ community. This social event gives individuals across campus an opportunity to meet and socialize with other individuals from various departments; people they may never have the opportunity to meet.
The Matthews Golf Classic is Texas Scramble format, so any ability to play golf is not necessary, allowing players of all abilities to play. It is a fun day where friendships and campus connections are made.
