The Gradient Gallery

A distinctive event space that will define the À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ student journey–from visiting high school student to engaged undergraduate to returning alumni.

The Gradient Gallery is a stunning, open-concept event space. It will feature two levels, a gallery, stadium seating and a skyfold door that opens to an outdoor space. The spaceÌýwill serve as a striking and welcoming venue for CEMC outreach activities, entrepreneurial programming, alumni events and community engagement of all kinds. When not in use for events, it will function as a collision space where students and faculty can meet to share a coffee, discuss group projects or study independently. The Gradient Gallery was also designed with Indigenous ceremonies in mind. It faces East and will be equipped with aÌýventilation system that will allow smudging ceremonies.Ìý

The Gradient Gallery will be the first space many math students see at the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ when they visit for a CEMC or recruitment event or a first-year orientation activity. And it will become a space they return to again and again throughout their time as a student and then as a returning alum.Ìý±õ³ÙÌýwill become an iconic part of the Faculty of Mathematics campus presence and hold a special place in the hearts of future Mathies.

Envision the space

Student space is in high demand. Having those places for students to hang out and organically meet and work with each other is really important. I think that's how you keep people invested in mathematics–doing it together. The coolest thing you do in a math degree is figuring things out together and having that "aha" moment as a group.
