This Thursday, Christine Kampen Robinson, from the Centre for Career Action will be giving an informative workshops specifically for MPACS students on Resume Writing.

Christine is truly an expert in this field and works specifically with graduate students at the Centre for Career Action. Christine joined us last year for two workshops that were met with VERY affirmative feedback. This workshop will be taking place from 12:00-1:00pm in Room 4224.

Lunch will be provided.

On Tuesday, February 28^th from 12:00-1:00pm Luisa D’Amato from the KW Record will be coming in to speak about writing op-ed pieces for newspapers.

Op-eds are an excellent way to share opinions and ideas with a larger audience. They are a very useful tool in communicating work you are doing, ideas about peace initiatives, and other issues to a broad audience. Writing a good op-ed is a skill that takes development and practice, and Luisa D’Amato will come and speak about how to do this well.

Lunch will be provided for the first 20 guests who reserve their spot. To reserve your spot please email me (km4brown@uwaterloo.ca) by February 27^th. The workshop will be taking place in the Community Education Room (Rm 2202).

The Centre for Career Action will be facilitating this workshop on networking and career search skills. This is great opportunity to refine your ability to make connections with professionals and practitioners in the field of peace and conflict studies. Graduate studies is about more than just academic improvement; it's also a chance to connect and collaborate with people who will be key to securing a career after school.

In celebration of Peace Week 2019, the PACS department is hosting Career Paths in Peacebuilding, a panel and Q&A on pursuing a career in peace and conflict. Come out to this free event if you are a student (undergraduate or graduate), worker, activist, entrepreneur, etc., interested in working in the field of peacebuilding. Four panelists with diverse expertise will talk about their experience entering the field, lessons learned, and hear and respond to questions from the audience:

Frances Fortune has worked with several national and international NGOs in Africa. Currently working as Senior Project Manager for MEDA while pursueing a PhD at Balsillie School, Frances specializes in conflict transformation processes, strategy development and program design, with a particular focus on theories of change integrating socio-politiccal processes and media activities.

Cesar Jaramillo is the Executive Director of Project Ploughshares, a peace research institute that works with churches, governments and civil society, in Canada and abroad, to advance policies and actions to prevent war and armed violence and build peace. Cesar's work has focusend on nuclear disarmament, outer space security and conventional weapons control.

Eric Boynton is a constable working in the Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity branch of the ��ݮ��Ƶ Region Police Service. Eric holds a Master of Peace and Conflict Studies degree and is currently a doctoral candidate at Royal Roads University.

Julie Friesen is the Director of Programs Conflict Resolution and Mediation Services at Community Justice Initiatives, a non-profit organization that addresses conflict and crime with restorative justice principles. Julie holds an MA in Sociology and has many years experience as a practitioner, facilitating mediation and restorative responses to conflict and crime.
