As an avid pacifist, this remarkable woman was the figurehead of a world-wide peace movement. She relentlessly fought nationalist fanaticism, aggressive militarism, anti-Semitism and recognized the dangers of hate breeding. As a writer and lecturer, she inspired her friend and benefactor Alfred Nobel to create a Peace Prize. She was the first woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize in 1906 for her most famous novel “Lay Down your Arms”. </div> <div>Violinist Elena Denisova and her husband, pianist Alexei Kornienko were some of the musicians selected by the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to perform a commemoration concert internationally in conjunction with this exhibit.</div> <div>Reception and Exhibit following Concert</div> <div><a href="/master-peace-conflict-studies/sites/default/files/uploads/files/suttner_engl.pdf">Lean more about the exhibit (PDF)</a></div> <div> <div class="uw-media media media--type-uw-mt-image media--view-mode-uw-vm-standard-image" data-width="500" data-height="627"> <img src="/master-peace-conflict-studies/sites/default/files/uploads/images/suttner_0.png" width="500" height="627" alt="Suttner event poster" loading="lazy" typeof="foaf:Image" /></div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </section> Tue, 15 Apr 2014 14:00:25 +0000 Conrad Grebel University Peace and Conflict Studies 93 at /master-peace-conflict-studies
