Students Shine at National CORS 2025 Conference in Edmonton

Students from Management Science and Engineering proudly represented the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ at the 2025 Canadian Operational Research Society (CORS) Conference, held from June 9-11 in Edmonton, Alberta, earning multiple awards for their exceptional contributions to the field of operational research (OR).

The À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ Student Chapter received the Bronze Level Student Chapter Recognition, a distinction that celebrates student engagement and outreach within the operational research community.

Notably, five undergraduate students - Matthew Chan, Adel Pazoki, Aniq Premji, Sunischit Thapa, and Larissa Troper - were named Runner-up in the Student Paper Competition (Undergraduate Category). Their project, which explores the application of OR methodologies, was the same one that earlier this year won the top prize in the national IISE (Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers) technical paper competition.

In addition to the team recognition, several individual students were also honoured:

  • Esma Akgun was named Runner-up in the Health Care Operational Research Special Interest Group (SIG) Student Paper Competition, highlighting her contributions to healthcare system efficiency and decision-making.
  • Mina Torabi Milani earned Runner-up in the Transportation and Logistics SIG Gilbert Laporte Student Paper Award, recognizing her innovative work in improving transportation systems using OR tools.

The annual CORS Student Paper Competition is a prestigious platform that spotlights the best in Canadian operational research education. Open to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled full-time at Canadian institutions, the competition rewards research that either advances OR methodology or demonstrates impactful applications in other fields.
