The largest collection in听UWSpace, the Library-hosted repository of 蓝莓视频 research, is the university鈥檚 ever-growing collection of electronic听theses and dissertations. As these are added to the collection by their authors鈥攏ot library staff鈥攖heir听metadata听are of听varying quality, and the subject keyword vocabulary is听uncontrolled.

In this presentation, 听Jordan Hale and Larisa Smyk听 will discuss their听semi-automated听approach to cleaning up the subject index, from the technical constraints posed by the听DSpace听repository platform to the special considerations of working within a听STEM environment, and will demonstrate how听OpenRefine听provides us with a starting point for tidying up this research collection.听OpenRefine听is a freely available application for听data wrangling鈥攄ata cleanup and transformation to other formats.
