Three WIN Members awarded WIN-MESA+ Seed Funding

Congratulations to three WIN members for winning the WIN-MESA+ Seed Funding Award for $75,000 each to support international joint research projects with faculty members from the MESA+ Institute for Nanotechnology at the University of Twente, Netherlands.

  • Anna Klinkova (WIN/Chem) and Jeff Wood (MESA+) for their project, 鈥Integrated Solution for Ammonia and Carbon Dioxide Recycling to Fertilizers and Fuels鈥
  • Hamed Majedi (WIN/ECE) and Klaus Boller (MESA+) to support their project ,鈥On-Chip Platform for Tunable Nonlinear Optics and Reconfigurable Quantum Photonics"
  • Kevin Musselman (WIN/MME) and Gertjan Koster (MESA+) for 鈥Laser-Synthesized 2D Nanosheets for Epitaxial Growth of Functional Oxides on Any Substrate"

This award was announced in October 2019 during the WIN-MESA+ Discovery Workshop, 鈥淣ew Interdisciplinary Research Opportunities to Combat Urgent Global Challenges to Health, ICT and Energy鈥 hosted by MESA+ to support joint projects aligning with one or more of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG). The awards are matched at聽鈧50,000 each for the MESA+ counterpart.

The award is for one year, where聽upon completion, all teams are to apply for large, international funding schemes such at the New Frontiers in Research Fund 2020 Horizon Global Platform and other calls sponsored by Horizon Europe program. Each awardee will also present their research findings at the end of the funding period as part of the International Symposium on Frontiers of Nanoscience & Nanotechnolgy and at the Annual WIN Board of Directors Meeting in June 2021.
