We are excited to announce that the ��ݮ��Ƶ Institute for Nanotechnology (WIN) is partnering with the Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC) to host a special Pitches and Demos event on October 2nd at Quantum Nano Center (QNC). This unique gathering will feature a Dutch Startup Delegation in quantum-nanotechnology area, who are exploring collaborative opportunities in our vibrant ��ݮ��Ƶ community.

As part of their itinerary in ��ݮ��Ƶ, the delegation will present elevator pitches including the companies below:

Welcome to the WIN Pitches & Demos Networking Event, a unique opportunity for students and industry professionals to connect and collaborate on cutting-edge nanotechnology research and innovation. This event will be held in the iconic Quantum Nano Centre (QNC) Lecture Room 1501 on April 4 from 2:00pm EDT. Snacks and drinks will be provided.

If you are a researcher/student, this is your chance to showcase your research outcomes and benefits brought to the industries or the public. WIN members, graduate students, postdocs, and research associates are highly encouraged to join and give a 5-minute pitching on their latest findings, and startup ideas. You will also have the opportunity to network with startup incubators and business mentors who can help you turn your ideas into reality.

If you are an industry professional, this is your chance to meet our world-class researchers and students and share your latest industrial trends and pain points. You will also have the opportunity to discover new solutions and opportunities for collaboration with WIN, Canada’s largest nanotechnology research institute.

SOSCIP is a collaborative R&D consortium that connects Ontario’s research-intensive post-secondary institutions and small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across the province. Our mission is to bring together industrial partners and academic researchers and provide them with sophisticated advanced computing technologies and expertise to solve social, technical and business challenges across sectors and drive economic growth.

SOSCIP supports researchers from a wide array of disciplines by providing access to advanced computing resources, big data analytics and expertise not available anywhere else in Canada. This session will introduce you to the SOSCIP collaborative model and will describe the computing, technical and funding resources available through the program.

This workshop covers the basics of Intellectual Property (IP) protection with a focus on patents. You’ll learn about the different types of IP protection available and some of the most common pitfalls to avoid. Learn about the resources available to you at the University of ��ݮ��Ƶ, including the ��ݮ��Ƶ Commercialization Office (WatCo). You will also hear how IP is used to commercialize a technology through licensing or start-up creation.
Included is a brief discussion on “Are You an Inventor?”, this highlights some key points for consideration
as this issue has come up when there may be a misunderstanding between Faculty and Grad Students.

Eric Luvisotto is a registered Canadian Patent Agent (2003) and earned his Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Engineering from the University of ��ݮ��Ƶ. He has many years of experience in the field of Intellectual Property (IP), having dedicated his career to IP in 1999. His career spans a wide variety of experiences, including working for two Canadian IP law firms, founding and running his own company, and working “in-house” for a large automotive parts manufacturer. In 2008, Eric accepted the position of Technology Transfer Officer with the University of ��ݮ��Ƶ’s ��ݮ��Ƶ Commercialization Office (WatCo). In this role he analyzes new ideas for patentability and commercial potential; he also seeks out potential receptors of these new technologies and negotiates licensing agreements with them. He is also involved with the creation of start-up companies if the technology merits this pathway.
