Ion traps are running into limitations on the number of\nqubi ts they can confine in a single trap\, and using more of the\ncomputationa l space available in the ions to make qudits is an\nattractive solution. W e have proposed using trapped ion qudits in a\nprevious paper\, developing all of the necessary quantum information\nprotocols for their implementat ion. Here\, we present an experimental\nresult of a 13-level qudit measure ment with a fidelity of 91.3%. The\nprotocol can be used to measure up to a 25-level qudit in barium. The\nerror scaling is not inherent to the dime nsion of the qudit\, so we can\nenvision going to higher dimensions withou t a significant increase in\nerror.
