The University of À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ and Wilfrid Laurier University are hosting a three-part lecture series for Canada 150, in partnership with the À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ Public Library and The City of À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ. As we recognize and celebrate 150 years of Confederation, this lecture series explores significant periods of Canadian history and their influence on Canada today.Ìý

Vimy Ridge: The Battle and the Myth
An expert panel from both UÀ¶Ý®ÊÓƵ and Laurier will discuss what happened during the famous battle and why Canadians have come to see it as the beginning of our national identity. The panel will also explore the memory and permanence of the Vimy Memorial and how it has faded and re-entered Canadian consciousness since World War II.
Truth and Reconciliation in Canadian Post-Secondary Education
How are universities responding to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action? Indigenous and non-Indigenous members of our two institutions will talk about the challenges and opportunities for indigenization on our campuses.
Canada’s Hidden Histories
Our country’s 150th anniversary has been a year of both celebration and debate about our collective and contested past. Four professors from Laurier and À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ will bring to light some of the hidden figures and narratives, including those of First Nations, gender struggles, and migration/refugee experiences.
