Where and what did you study before you came to Germanic and Slavic Studies at the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ?
I did a BA (Honours) in Applied Linguistics/TESL with a Minor in German at Brock University!
What are your interests in German Studies?
I originally started studying German language with plans of going into translation and to aid in my understanding and application of the linguistics portion of my degree, and I ended up taking a huge interest in Germanic studies as a whole, but German linguistics still has my heart.
Why did you choose the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ?
The IcGS program allows me to combine both the linguistics and German parts of my degree. I would have had to choose between the two with a lot of other Masters programs, and so I get the best of both worlds with IcGS and UW! Plus, I get to do a year abroad in Mannheim, which is something I wanted to do with my undergraduate degree but didn’t get the chance to.
Do you already know what you want to write your thesis on?
I am still open to other avenues, but I’m hoping to look at how grammatical gender affects social gender perception in German.
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a palaeontologist or an archeologist. What is a fun fact about you? My biggest fear is escalators.
