Dr Erin Joakim from the Department of Geography and Environmental Management, University of ��ݮ��Ƶ, was recently welcomed to the Coastal Marine Research Centre (CMRC), University College Cork, Ireland. Erin won a prestigious to look at Building Adaptive Capacity to Coastal Climate Change Hazards using Bottom-Up and Grassroots Approaches: A Comparison of Vancouver, Canada and Cork, Ireland.

Again this year, the Department of Geography and Environmental Management has been ranked in the top 100 Geography departments in the world by UK firm Quacquarelli Symonds Ltd.

First-year student Brieuc de Vuyst wins Grand Prize at Faculty’s annual environmental entrepreneurship competition

Five students from the Department of Geography and Environmental Management will be part of a team of students representing The University of ��ݮ��Ƶ at the conference in Warsaw, Poland from November 11-22, 2013.

Amber Silver, a Ph.D. candidate from the Department of Geography and Environmental Management, University of ��ݮ��Ƶ received a Ph.D Presentation award at the Joint Annual Meeting of ELDAAG and CAGONT, the Ontario and Eastern Lakes divisions of the Canadian and American geographical associations.

Dr. Geoff Wall, a retired Geography and Environmental Management (GEM) professor in the University of ��ݮ��Ƶ’s Faculty of Environment, is the subject of a publication titled, The “Great Wall” in tourism research – a portrait of Geoff Wall by P. F. Xie in the journal "Anatolia – An International Journal of Tourism and Hospitality Research.”

Many academic institutions automatically elevate faculty to professor emeritus status upon their retirement. At the ���Ծ������������é de �ѴDzԳٰ�é���� (UdeM) the process is more selective. Through an internal nomination process, a handful of former UdeM faculty are identified, vetted and eventually chosen as permanent faculty members of the 135-year-old institution.

As our climate changes, flooding, fire, tornadoes and drought likely sit atop many people’s list of potential environmental hazards.
