CLASS:PUBLIC DESCRIPTION:Summary \n\nGames research is slowly diversifying in matters of representation as\nwell as accessibility related investigations. Similarl y\, a materialist\nand embodied understanding of play (also digitally) see ps in more on a\ntheoretical basis. However\, we need to critically examin e what kind of\nbodies are invited to participate in play and how. Where g ames and\nplay are mostly conceptualized as entertainment for the majority of\nbodies\, disabled people are often relegated to playing for\n extern ally motivated purposes that are often driven by deficit\noriented medical models of disability. Using the theory on the\nsurrogate body in play\, t hey illustrate how it can be instrumental to\ncritically engage with norm s governing digital play and identifying\ndesign opportunities playing wit h said bodily norms to holistically\ncater to disabled audiences. They do so by focusing on the critical\nanalytical category of disability not jus t through an access oriented\nlens per se\, but rather to bring principles of disability justice to\nplay.\n DTSTAMP:20250510T233706Z END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
