Congratulations to Environment and Resource Studies graduate student Julie DeWolf whose Three Minute Thesis presentation advanced her to the next round of competition where she'll square off against other University of À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ researchers on April 2nd.

The 3 Minute Thesis (3MT) is a university-wide competition for research-based masters thesis and doctoral students at the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ.

Competitors have 1 static slide and 3 minutes to explain the breadth and significance of their research to a non-specialist audience.

A number of ERS students have taken advantage of the Winter term Reading Week to do a field course outside of À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ. Learning ‘hands on’ about the environment in different locations, it has been an opportunity for learning, for expanding horizons and for having fun! The Department of Environment & Resource Studies is pleased to announce that PhD student Michael McTavish has formally been awarded the NSERC André Hamer Postgraduate Prize as the most outstanding candidate in NSERC’s doctoral scholarship competition.

ERS 1B student Madeline (Maddi) Leblanc has started an annual grassroots fundraiser to build awareness for brain cancer research. This year’s event – a group paddleboard journey down the Welland Canal – will be held on 23 July 2015. Researcher Sarah Wolfe’s work on water decision-making is the focus of a ‘Storyteller’ entry by Faculty of Environment graduate student Tessa Soltendieck.

ERS 1B student Perry Schumacher was chosen as the Canadian delegate (of 15 young people from around the world) to participate in an international documentary film. The film – Rise of the Eco-Warriors – documents the group’s work saving rainforests and giving hope to endangered orangutans.
