 . David\nMcDonald\, Professor\, Department of Global Development Studies\,
 \nQueen’s University\, will present: What’s public about public\nwater
 ?\n\nThis event is in person in DC 1302 with a lunch reception to follow i
 n\nDC 1301 (The Fishbowl).\n\nDebates about water privatization have tende
 d to construct a\nsimplistic binary of public versus private. In reality\,
  ‘public’\nwater is varied and complex in its institutional and ideolo
 gical\nmake-up\, illustrated in part by the rise of very different types o
 f\n‘remunicipalized’ water services over the past ten years as well\na
 s the growth of ‘corporatized’ public utilities. Drawing on two\ndecad
 es of empirical and theoretical work on this topic\, Dr McDonald\nwill hig
 hlight key tensions and synergies in the emerging debates\nabout the natur
 e of public water services.\n\nDavid McDonald is Professor of Global Devel
 opment Studies at Queen’s\nUniversity and Director of the Municipal Serv
 ices Project. He has\nconducted research on public services in more than 5
 0 countries and\nhas written extensively in academic and popular formats. 
 His most\nrecent book is “Meanings of Public and the Future of Public\nS
 ervices”
