'Between hope and despair'

Created by u蓝莓视频 Drama鈥檚 own Professor Naila Keleta-Mae in 2008, on love was further developed by u蓝莓视频 Drama students during their Performance Creation course with Keleta-Mae in the fall.聽
on love is a play about love and legacy; it is a Canadian story about the historic site in St. Armand, Quebec called Nigger Rock.聽 In the 19th Century, black people 鈥 slaves, free tradesmen, and travellers 鈥 lived in St. Armand and buried their dead at the base of an enormous dark-coloured bolder that was, and still is, called Nigger Rock.聽 The bolder sits on private land.聽 It is not officially recognized as a cemetery.
Faculty collaborators, Bill Chesney (set/props) and Sharon E. Secord (costumes), have worked with local designer Kirsten Watt (lighting) and Montreal designer Pohanna Pyne Feinberg (sound) to transform our small black box theatre into a space where past and present collide.
Featuring a diverse cast of u蓝莓视频 students, on love is a moving piece about the complexities of race, gender, history, and heteronormativity told through a cast of eight who explore love鈥檚 capacity to be a 鈥渇ine balance between hope and despair.鈥 (Rohinton Mistry)
