 f a partially ordered set (poset) has only real roots.\n\nIn the late 1980
 s\, Stanley gave this to me as a thesis project\,\ngeneralized to labelled
  posets.  For my thesis I proved the\nconclusion for series-parallel labe
 lled posets and a bit more. \nBr\\\"and\\'en\, and later Stembridge\, fou
 nd counterexamples to the\nconjecture in general.\n
