Congress of the Humanities and SocialSciences/CAUTG Annual Meeting, June 1 - 7 | Vancouver,British Columbia
Joint panel between twoassociations: Canadian Association of University Teachers of German (CAUTG)ԻThe Coalition of Women in German (WiG):
‘Good’Queers and Hated Others: Integration, Expulsion, and Disavowal of Subjects inContemporaryGerman-language Society and Culture”
With the change of society’sattitude toward contemporary queer identities and the cooperation ofconceptssuch as intersectionality and feminism, particular non-normative bodies havebeeninstrumentalized as signposts of hegemonic cultural changes. Mobilized forthe advancement ofneoliberalism, gentrification, global tourism, massconsumerism, and capitalist expansion, certainindividuals and social groupsare deemed “regenerative queer” (Haritaworn) forces and circulated asparagonsof socio-political progress. This selective humanization of some bodies comesat the expenseof many others who failed to perpetuate normative ideals andideologies. For example, many Europeancountries are witness to the rise of thepopular right while inviting the presence of certain queer bodies, culminatingin the recent passage of gay marriage in various Western European countries suchasIreland, Germany, and Austria.
We invite proposals that may include the followingapproaches to German-language texts and culture:
- criticalinterrogations of normative concepts of identities via intersectionalapproaches
- interrogationsof homo and crip nationalism
- considerationsof queer temporalities and queer spaces
- questions of political subjectivity
- examinationsof affective landscapes of non-normative bodies navigating socialstructures
