CBB member,Juewen Liu is developing a new test to detect pathogens and contaminants in water. He will receive more than $100,000 over three years from the Ontario Ministry of Environment and Climate Change for research initiatives that test pathogens and chemical contaminants in water.
A novel combination of advanced design tools, low cost materials and commonly used manufacturing technologies and processes is helping University of ݮƵ engineering professor Karim S. Karim develop better, safer imaging at a lower cost.
His startup company, KA Imaging, is commercializing a highly sensitive X-ray detector that produces a higher quality image with almost 40 percent less radiation, making the technology safer for both patients and the clinicians that operate it.
Jesse Hoeyand team received a $850,000 grant from the Trans-Atlantic Platform for the Social Sciences and Humanities (T-AP) for theirresearch that will explore social and psychological mechanisms of self-organized collaborations, focusing on the open, collaborative software development platform GitHub.

Pascal Poupartis leading a team that is developing interactive artificial intelligence that improves hockey and physical and mental health. In collaboration with HockeyTech, a local company thatanalyzesdata from hockey games, the AI system canhelp talent scouts determine which players to recruit and help coaches to better understand what makes one player superior to another.
ݮƵ professors were awarded $1.4 million for infrastructurethrough the John R. Evans Leaders Fund (JELF) by the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI). This will provide researchers with the foundational research infrastructure necessary to lead in their field.

An innovative and inexpensive tool kit to better assess balance and improve quality of life for older adults, as well as people who have suffered strokes, injuries, and other disorders has been awarded $50,000 to further testing and improvement.
