The workshop will start with a review of University of ݮƵ IP followed by a detailed discussion on Copyright protection. A Q&A and short networking session will follow.

Eric Luvisotto is a registered Canadian Patent Agent (2003) and has earned his Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Engineering from the University of ݮƵ. He is a member of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (), the Licensing Executives Society, and the Association of University Technology Managers ().
Eric has many years of experience in the field of Intellectual Property (IP) and spans a wide variety of experiences including working for two Canadian IP law firms, founding and running his own Start-Up company, and working “in-house” for a large automotive parts manufacturer.
As a Technology Transfer Officer with the ݮƵ Commercialization Office (WatCo) at the University of ݮƵ since 2008, Eric analyzes new ideas for patentability and commercial potential, negotiates licensing agreements, and is also involved with the facilitation of Start-Up companies.
Eric is a popular guest lecturer on Intellectual Property and UW’s IP Policy. He regularly presents the “IP 101” and “IP Case Study” workshops for faculty, students and other groups at the University of ݮƵ.

Michael Crinson is one of Canada’s most experienced IP trial counsel. Mike has been counsel on five separate trials in the past decade and has been counsel on numerous other patent infringement actions involving biotechnological, chemical, mechanical, electrical, bio-technical and bio-medical subject matter. Mike is very experienced in all types of intellectual property litigation, including trade secrets, trademark and copyright infringement and validity proceedings, and inventorship and ownership disputes. He was counsel in a precedent-setting decision that found reverse confusion to be actionable under Canadian trade-mark law; he also argued in the first case in the Federal Court to open the door to a preliminary trial on the issue of claim construction prior to the main trial on patent infringement and validity.
Mike began his working life as a research scientist at a pharmaceutical company, and then as a biochemistry, microbiology and biotechnology instructor at Brock University in Canada.
Lauren Byl is the Licensing & Copyright Librarian for the University of ݮƵ. Lauren has been working on campus since August 2014. In her current role, she is available to help with all kinds of copyright and licensing concerns, including assistance with finding usage rights, understanding the Copyright Act as it applies to teaching, and helping you understand your rights throughout the publishing process.
