Ryan attended the University of British Columbia for his undergraduate studies and completed a BASc in Electrical Engineering in 2017. He then went on to complete a Master's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ under the co-supervision of Stephen L. Smith and Krzysztof Czarnecki, where he did research in data-driven lattice planning and safe swerve manoeuvres for autonomous driving.

He is currently a software engineer at Waymo, in Mountain View, CA, where he works on behaviour planning for autonomous driving.
